Rupnagar, 02 November: Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana while giving information said that as per the directions of Director General of Police Punjab Mr. Gaurav Yadav and under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Rupnagar Range Rupnagar S. Nanak Singh, the Rupnagar Police is running a campaign against drug smugglers and anti-social elements under the “War on Drugs” campaign, a total of 8 persons including 1 person addicted to drugs were arrested by the District Police in cases registered under the NDPS Act.
He said that 8 kg 262 grams of opium, 2 kg 437 grams of charas, 35 grams of intoxicating powder, 5 mobile phones and Rs 3610/- were seized from the arrested persons and one person was arrested and 6750 ML of illicit liquor was seized from him and a case was registered against him under the Excise Act.
He further informed that in the continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the district police achieved great success while checking drug smugglers and evil elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places. During the roadblock, the police party of Sri Anandpur Sahib police station saw a car number HP-12R-5454 brand Mahindra Thar coming from Nangal side. Seeing the police party standing in front, it started to turn back for a moment. The police party caught the car on the spot while showing restraint. When the youth sitting on the driver’s side was asked about his name and address, he revealed his name as Rohit Saini, resident of village Chuhuwal, Mitra Colony, police station Nalagarh, and the youth sitting next to him on the conductor’s side revealed his name as Manoj Kumar, resident of village Chak, police station Bandi, district Solan (H.P.). During the search, 250 grams of opium and 3 mobile phones were recovered.
During interrogation, he told that he had brought this opium from Vikas Soni, a resident of village Bhanupli, police station Nangal, district Rupnagar. On which, Vikas Soni was arrested by the police party during investigation and 8 kg 12 grams of opium and 2 kg 437 grams of charas and 2 mobile phones were recovered from him.
He told that a total of 8 kg 262 grams of opium, 2 kg 437 grams of charas, 5 mobile phones and Rs 3610/- were recovered from them and a case has been registered against them under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway, from which more revelations are likely to be made.
S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that apart from this, District Police Station Sadar Rupnagar arrested Simranjit Singh alias Channi, resident of Mohalla Phul Chakra near Khwaja Mandir Rupnagar, Satinder Kumar alias Satti, resident of Street No. 03 near J.S. Resort Mohalla Krishna Nagar Rupnagar and Shubham Rawat, resident of Sukhram Colony, Badi Haveli Rupnagar and recovered 20 grams of narcotic powder from them, Police Station Nurpurbedi arrested Harmanpreet Singh, resident of village Musapur and recovered 15 grams of narcotic powder from him.
He said that Police Station Kiratpur Sahib arrested drug addict Gurvinder Singh, resident of village Chandpur Bela and registered a case against him under the NDPS Act.
Apart from this, Singh Bhagwantpur police station arrested Rulda Singh, a resident of village Sotal Baba and recovered 6750 ML of illicit liquor from him and a case was registered against him under the Excise Act.
SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public that if any person is involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then his information should be shared on Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline No. 97791-00200 (WhatsApp Chatbot) or the District Police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
