PAU-KVK, Ropar organizes awareness camp on soil health improvement under “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”
Roopnagar 15th June: PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ropar and Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare organized a farmer awareness program on balanced use of fertilizers in crops at village Harsha Bela, block Sri Anandpur Sahib on 15.6.2026 under “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”. This program was organized under the leadership of Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, ICAR-Attari, Zone-1 and Dr. Satbir Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK Ropar.
Addressing the program, Dr. Jagmanjot Singh Mann, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), motivated the farmer warriors to make balanced use of fertilizers in paddy and maize crops.
He said that if phosphorus recommended fertilizer has been used in the paddy-wheat crop cycle, then avoid using this fertilizer in paddy. Apply urea fertilizer as required in paddy, medium varieties at 7, 21 and 42 days and short duration varieties like P. R. 126 at 7, 21 and 35 days. He advised the farmers to increase the area under kharif maize under crop diversification. Apart from this, he gave detailed information about the new hybrid of maize P. M. H. 17. He motivated the farmers to plant the suitable variety J. C. 12 for Kandi area. The farmer warriors were told that the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is also providing a subsidy of Rs. 17,500/- per hectare to increase the area under kharif maize.
Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), advised the farmers to regularly monitor the White-Backed Plant Hopper (WBPH) in paddy seedlings and if required, spray any of the recommended insecticides such as 94 mL Paxalone 10 SC (Triflumizopyram) or 60 gm Ulala 50 WG (Flonikamid) or 80 gm Ocean/Token/Dominant 20 SG (Dinotefuran) or 120 gm Chess 50 WG (Pymetrozine) dissolved in 100 liters of water per acre.
The farmers were told to regularly monitor the field to protect the maize crop from fall armyworm. If the attack of the worm is seen, then as per the recommendation, spray Corajan 18.5 SC (Chlorantraniliprole) 0.4 ml or Delegate 11.7 SC (Spinatorum) 0.5 ml or Missile 5 SG (Emamectin Benzoate) 0.4 gm per liter of water. Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Professor (Vegetable Science), motivated the farmers to plant vegetable and fruit trees. He advised to increase the area under vegetable and fruit trees to promote agricultural diversification. Apart from this, he also motivated the farmers to make balanced use of fertilizers.
At the end of the program, problems were resolved on the spot by visiting the fields of the farmer warriors.
