Timely screening and treatment of pregnant women can prevent transmission of diseases from mother to child.

Rupnagar, September 29: Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Vivek Kumar, a training workshop was organized for medical and paramedical staff to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis and to create awareness about it. This workshop was organized in collaboration with ICTC Civil Hospital Rupnagar, Disha Cluster Patiala and District Health Society Rupnagar.

The main objective of this workshop was to ensure timely screening and treatment of HIV and syphilis in pregnant women and to prevent mother-to-child transmission of these diseases. On this occasion, the medical and paramedical staff of the Health Department were made aware of the latest information in this regard as well as practical aspects.
During the workshop, ICTC Incharge Dr. Harleen Kaur said that during pregnancy, HIV and syphilis testing at the early stage is very important for the protection of the health of the mother and the child. If any of these infections is confirmed in a pregnant woman, then timely treatment and necessary care as per the treatment regimen prescribed by the Health Department greatly increases the chances of saving the child from infection.
CPO Disha Cluster Nitin Kumar gave detailed information to the health workers about various important aspects including prevention, primary diagnosis, timely treatment, support to pregnant mothers and protection of newborns.
Apart from this, Dr. Raman, Gynecologist, District Hospital, Rupnagar, and Dr. Kawaljit Kaur, Medical Officer, ART Center, discussed the consultation service for pregnant women, motivating them for testing, timely identification of infected cases and connecting them with the necessary health services.
The workshop emphasized that only by protecting the health of the mother can the foundation of a healthy child and a healthy society be laid. Medical and paramedical staff working in health institutions have an important role in this campaign, as they can be provided with examination, treatment and necessary counseling services during direct contact with pregnant women.
On this occasion, the Health Department motivated all the staff to deliver HIV and syphilis related health services to the people in a more effective manner and to ensure timely testing and treatment facilities for every pregnant woman.
The message of this workshop was “Healthy Mothers, Healthy Children, Bright Future”. Under this, the need for joint efforts by all officers and employees of the health department to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis was emphasized.
On this occasion, ICTC Counselor Anuradha, Lab Technicians Taranjit Kaur, Harpreet and Jaspreet Singh along with the entire staff of the ICTC center were present.
