Patients in critical condition of heart attack are getting free and immediate treatment at the district hospital.
Rupnagar, September 16: As part of the Punjab government’s commitment to provide quality health facilities to the common people on time and free of cost, the STEMI project being run at District Hospital Rupnagar is proving to be a boon for heart attack patients. Under this project, precious lives of 9 heart attack patients have been saved so far this year.
Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Vivek Kataria said that under the STEMI project, patients in serious condition of heart attack are being provided immediate medical assistance and treatment as per requirement free of cost at District Hospital Rupnagar. He said that under this project, after the initial examination of the patient and confirmation of the condition of heart attack, a special injection is administered as per the requirement, which helps in dissolving the blood clot formed in the heart vessels. The cost of this expensive injection is usually around Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000, but this facility is being provided free of cost to the patients by the Punjab Government.
Dr. Vivek Kataria said that every moment is extremely precious in the event of a heart attack. Sometimes the condition of the patient is so critical that he needs to be immediately sent to a higher health institution. The time spent in transportation during such a time can pose a serious threat to the patient. He said that under the STEMI project, the patient gets immediate medical assistance at the district hospital itself, which helps in stabilizing his condition and after that he is sent to a nearby health institution, where special examination of the heart vessels and the facility of inserting a stent if required is available.
He appreciated the services being rendered by medical expert Dr. Puneet Saini and the entire health team at District Hospital Rupnagar and said that the health department team is playing an important role in providing timely expert medical services to the patients and implementing the STEMI project effectively.
Medical expert Dr. Puneet Saini said that heart attack is such a serious health condition in which it is very important for the patient to get immediate medical help without wasting time. He said that nowadays due to changing lifestyle, unbalanced diet, excessive mental stress and lack of physical exercise, cases of blockage in the heart arteries and heart attacks are coming to the fore. He said that under the STEMI project, the facility of providing timely primary treatment to patients suffering from heart attacks is getting significant help in saving the life of the patient and stabilizing his condition.
Dr. Puneet Saini appealed to the people to be conscious about their health and said that along with taking a balanced and nutritious diet, daily physical exercise should be made a part of their lifestyle. He said that if a person feels chest pain, heaviness, pressure, difficulty in breathing or sudden restlessness, then it should not be ignored as a common problem. In case of such symptoms, one should immediately reach the nearest health facility and get a medical check-up done.
He said that timely treatment in case of heart attack can play a decisive role in saving precious lives. Therefore, one should seek immediate medical attention instead of ignoring unusual chest pain or other symptoms.
