Rupnagar, September 29: Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh, a massive awareness seminar was organized at District Hospital Rupnagar under the theme of World Heart Day “Don’t Miss a Beat”. Medical specialist doctors, nursing staff, health department officials, students and the general public participated in this event.
The seminar began with an address by Dr. Simranjit Kaur, Senior Medical Officer-in-Charge of Civil Hospital Rupnagar. She said that heart diseases are one of the main causes of death worldwide. Diseases like smoking, alcohol consumption, stress, poor diet, increasing obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes are risk factors for heart diseases.
Medical Specialist Dr. Puneet Saini described a healthy lifestyle as the best weapon to prevent heart diseases. He encouraged people to exercise for at least 30 minutes daily, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, limit the use of oil and salt and stay away from drugs. He also gave information about the early symptoms of heart diseases, such as chest pain or pressure, difficulty in breathing, sweating, dizziness and pain in the arms or neck. He said that reaching the hospital immediately in such cases can save lives.
