
Government Schools Continue to Achieve New Milestones Under the Leadership of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains
Sri Anandpur Sahib, October 1: Government High School Dasgrani has been honoured with a National Award for its three consecutive years of achievements under the GenCan Programme. The National Award Ceremony was organised by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and HCL Foundation in New Delhi on September 28, 2026.
The programme encourages students to develop awareness about the environment and sustainable development. Various initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental education are being promoted in government schools across Punjab. Alongside these efforts, the Punjab School Education Department is also continuing initiatives related to digital education and career counselling.
The school was represented at the national award ceremony by Science Mistress and Programme Mentor Teacher Mrs. Amarjit Kaur and Climate Action Programme student team member Manpreet Kaur.
With the guidance and support of Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur and Headmistress Mrs. Sapna Sharma, Government High School Dasgrani has participated continuously in the programme for the past three years and has now entered its fourth year.
During the ceremony, the winning teams were felicitated by Shri Karthikeya V. Sarabhai, Director, Centre for Environment Education; Mrs. Joyce Poon, Programme Specialist and Head of Education, UNESCO; Dr. Jubilee Padmanabhan, Associate Professor, NCERT; and Dr. Santanu Basu, Project Director, HCL Foundation.
The school described the achievement as the result of the continuous efforts of its teachers and students and their commitment towards environmental protection and awareness.
On this achievement, the school headmistress and District Education Officer Mr. Prem Kumar Mittal congratulated the entire school staff, Mrs. Amarjit Kaur and the student team. He said that such recognition encourages students to protect the environment, adopt sustainable lifestyles and conserve natural resources.
Under the leadership of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, government schools are receiving encouragement not only in academics but also for students’ achievements in diverse fields, including environmental awareness and sustainable development.
