District-Level Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026 Competitions to Begin Today
Grand Opening Ceremony to Be Held at Nehru Stadium, Rupnagar
Rupnagar, September 27: The district-level competitions of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026’ Season-4, being organised by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann through the Department of Sports, will begin with a grand opening ceremony on September 28, 2026, at Nehru Stadium, Rupnagar. The district administration and the Sports Department have completed all necessary preparations for the event.
Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Aditya Dachalwal said that following the successful completion of the block-level competitions, detailed arrangements have been made by the district administration in collaboration with the Sports Department to conduct the district-level competitions in a smooth and systematic manner. He said that a Gatka demonstration will also be presented by the Sports Department during the opening ceremony, which will be a special attraction of the event.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district-level competitions will be held from September 28 to October 5, 2026, at various selected sports grounds across the district. Players from different age groups will participate in a total of 29 sports, including athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, football, kho-kho and hockey. Players ranging from the Under-14 category to the above-70 age group will get an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent.
He said that on September 28, 2026, athletics, football, kho-kho and swimming competitions for Under-14, Under-17 and Under-21 boys and girls will be held at Nehru Stadium, Rupnagar. Volleyball, smashing and chess competitions for Under-14, Under-17 and Under-21 boys and girls will be organised at Government Polytechnic College, Rupnagar.
Similarly, Under-14, Under-17 and Under-21 boys and girls table tennis competitions will be held at Gandhi School; weightlifting and powerlifting competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls will be organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Bharatgarh; and Under-14 girls’ badminton competitions will be held at Shivalik Club, Rupnagar.
The Deputy Commissioner said that keeping in view the convenience of players coming from outside for the district-level competitions, special arrangements have been made for food, clean drinking water, medical teams and transportation. Adequate arrangements for security and cleanliness have also been ensured at all sports venues.
The Deputy Commissioner said that ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ is an important initiative among the efforts being undertaken by the Punjab Government to promote sports and encourage young people to participate in sporting activities. He urged the district’s players to participate in the competitions with full enthusiasm and sporting spirit. He said that sports not only channel the energy of young people in a constructive direction but also promote discipline, tolerance and team spirit among them.
District Sports Officer Jagjivan Singh Gill said that the Sports Department has completed all necessary preparations for the successful conduct of the district-level competitions. He appealed to all players and sports enthusiasts of the district to attend the events in large numbers, encourage the participating players and become part of this sporting festival.
Jagjivan Singh Gill further said that the kickboxing competitions will be held on September 30, 2026, at Government Polytechnic College, Rupnagar.
