Rupnagar, October 14: In order to implement the “War on Drugs” campaign being run by the Punjab Government at the ground level, the District Rupnagar Police is continuously taking action against drug dealers.
Giving information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that under the “War on Drugs” campaign being run by the Rupnagar Police against drug smugglers and anti-social elements, the District Police has arrested a person addicted to drugs in various cases under the NDPS Act and arrested one person and recovered more than 15 grams of narcotic powder from him.
He further informed that in continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the district police checked drug smugglers and evil elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places, during which the Sadar Rupnagar police station arrested a drug addict Jaspal Singh of village Ghanaula and the City Morinda police station arrested Manpreet Singh alias Gosa of village Habbowal, Machhiwara Sahib, Ludhiana district, Baldev Nagar, Morinda and recovered more than 15 grams of narcotic powder from him and cases were registered against them under the NDPS Act. In which further action is being taken.
Apart from this, in view of the festival, to maintain law and order in the district and to tighten the noose on the bad elements, checkpoints were set up at various places and a total of 127 challans were issued against those violating traffic rules, driving under the influence of alcohol, triple riding, obstructing traffic by wrong parking, using modified silencers in bullet motorcycles and violating other traffic rules.
SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the police to eliminate the menace of drugs and if any person is involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then their information should be shared on Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
