Rupnagar, May 20: In connection with International Dengue Day, a special seminar was organized by the Health Department, Rupnagar at DAV Senior Secondary School, Rupnagar to make students aware of dengue fever. More than 300 school children and teachers participated in this seminar.
On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Raman Kumar Gupta addressed the children and gave detailed information about the symptoms, prevention and warning signs of dengue.
Dr. Raman Kumar Gupta said that dengue is spread by the bite of the Aedes mosquito, which bites during the day and breeds in clean water. This mosquito has white stripes. High fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, pain in muscles and joints, red rashes on the body and vomiting are the main symptoms of dengue. If there are warning signs like bleeding from the nose and mouth along with fever, black diarrhea, severe pain in the stomach or fainting, then one should immediately get checked at the nearest hospital.
They appealed to the children not to let water stagnate in and around their homes. Change the water in coolers, pots, broken pots, tires every week. Wear full-sleeved clothes and use mosquito nets while sleeping.
On this occasion, the Civil Surgeon conducted a question and answer session with the children, to which the children responded with great enthusiasm.
Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Urmil Garg and Dr. Harsharan Kaur also told the children about the “Every Sunday, Fight Dengue” campaign for the prevention of dengue. They said that inspect your house every Friday and destroy mosquito larvae.
District Mass Media Officers Gurmeet Kaur and Ravinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh Assistant Malaria Officer and Rakesh Singh Deputy Group Education and Information Officer gave information about dengue to the children. Dengue tests and treatment are available free of cost in all government hospitals. Deputy Group Education and Information Officer Mrs. Ritu Health Inspector Ranjit Singh and other staff members were present on the occasion.
