Government College Rupnagar Secures First Position in Inter-College Zone ‘C’ Cricket Competition

Rupnagar, September 19, 2026: The Inter-College Zone ‘C’ Cricket Competition was organised at the sports ground of Government College Rupnagar from September 14 to 19, 2026, under the directions of the Director, Sports Department, Punjabi University, Patiala, and under the patronage of Principal Mrs. Gunjeet Kaur. Teams from seven colleges affiliated with Punjabi University participated in the competition.

On the opening day, Principal Mrs. Gunjeet Kaur attended the event as the chief guest. She interacted with the players representing various colleges and welcomed the principals, team in-charges and students. She encouraged the students to move forward in life with discipline, sportsmanship and hard work.

Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Physical Education, Prof. Harjit Singh, said that the cricket team of Government College Rupnagar delivered an excellent performance and secured first position by defeating the team of Government Ranbir College, Sangrur, in the final.

On the concluding day, Principal Mrs. Gunjeet Kaur attended the prize distribution ceremony and presented the trophy to the winning team. In the final match, Jaskaran Singh of Government College Rupnagar displayed an outstanding batting performance, scoring 82 runs off just 23 balls, for which he was declared Man of the Match.

Similarly, college player Anush Prashar scored 60 runs and took 12 wickets throughout the tournament. For his all-round performance, he was honoured with the Man of the Series award.

Team Coach Avneep Saini played an important role in the team’s impressive victory. Mr. Zorawar Singh and Mr. Harshdeep Singh performed the duties of referees during the competition.

On the occasion, College Council members Prof. Meena Kumari, Dr. Nirmal Singh, Dr. Dalwinder Singh, Prof. Shaminder Kaur, and Secretary of the District Cricket Association Mr. Buddhi Raja were also present.

The successful organisation of the competition was supported by Dr. Jatinder Kumar, Prof. Arvinder Kaur, Prof. Dharminder Singh, Prof. Harmandeep Singh, Prof. Harmandeep Kaur, Prof. Gurmakh Singh, Prof. Manpreet Singh, Prof. Rajwinder Singh, Prof. Dimple, Prof. Ravneet Kaur, Prof. Tejinder Kaur and Prof. Tarnjot Kaur.
