Rupnagar, February 19: The district administration has already started efforts to save Rupnagar district from flood-like situations during the upcoming monsoon season.
In order to protect the potentially affected areas from floods and minimize the damage caused by floods, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mr. Aditya Dechalwal held a meeting with the officials of various departments regarding the preparations for the flood season 2026 and directed that adequate arrangements should be made for flood protection before the monsoon.
Presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of the district to visit the dams, canals and culverts in their respective blocks and asked them to get the necessary work done.
In this meeting, Deputy Commissioner Shri Aditya Dechalwal specifically ordered the district executive officers to get the water drainage of the cities and the drains cleaned so that there is no problem during the monsoon season. Along with this, it was also asked to keep the machinery and other devices available in the municipal councils or municipal panchayats ready.
Along with this, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Block Development and Panchayat Officers to personally visit the villages to ensure the cleaning of drains, sewers and flood protection works being carried out under MGNREGA and to review the arrangements and no laxity should be allowed in this regard. Along with this, he also ordered the BDPOs to get the existing ponds in the villages cleaned.
Along with this, the Deputy Commissioner also ordered the removal of illegal encroachments near rivers/canals.
Shri Aditya Dechalwal said that all the encroachments near the waterways (drains/canals) should be removed as soon as possible. He also directed the Canal Department and Pollution Control Board to reduce pollution in canals and drains. He said that these areas should be surveyed geographically and scientifically and apart from this, all the bridges and roads should also be inspected.
He also directed the officials to keep their relief and rehabilitation teams ready to deal with any situation arising due to heavy rains. He also directed that flood protection works be further strengthened on priority basis in sensitive areas so that incidents like this can be prevented if there is continuous rain in the coming days.

Arvinderpal Singh Somal, RTO S. Arshdeep Singh Lubana, SDM Rupnagar S. Baljinder Singh Dhillon, SDM Morinda S. Gurdev Singh Dhamma, SDM Nangal S. Sachin Pathak, SDM Sri Anandpur Sahib S. Jaspreet Singh, District Revenue Officer Shri Badaldin, Exxon Mining Department Sri Anandpur Sahib S. Gurtej Singh Garcha along with all the BDPOs of the district, Tehsildars, Executive Officers and other high officials were present.
