Additional Deputy Commissioner appeals to farmers to bring only dry paddy to the markets

Rupnagar reviews ongoing paddy procurement arrangements

Rupnagar, October 10: Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Rupnagar Mrs. Pooja Sial Grewal reviewed the ongoing paddy procurement operations for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26 in detail.
During this meeting, clear instructions were issued to the District Food and Supplies Controller, District Manager of Procurement Agencies and District Mandi Officer Rupnagar that the procurement process should be smooth and timely, immediate lifting of the produce should be done and early payment should be ensured to the farmers.
The District Mandi Officer was specifically instructed to ensure that the paddy coming to the market should be strictly inspected so that only completely dry paddy is allowed to enter the market.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that a total of 28,167 metric tons of paddy has been registered in the district till October 09, out of which 28,118 metric tons of paddy have been purchased. Which includes 27,714 metric tons by government agencies and 404 metric tons by traders. The arrival on October 09 was 3,922 metric tons and the day’s purchase was 3,915 metric tons (3,704 metric tons by government agencies and 211 metric tons by traders). He also said that so far 20,603 metric tons of paddy have been lifted, out of which 3,153 metric tons of paddy were lifted on October 09 alone. He further informed that Rs. 61.68 crore has been paid to the farmers till now, which is 108 percent of the current dues of Rs. 57.36 crore.
Smt. Pooja Sial Grewal informed that the state government stands by its commitment that every grain of paddy will be purchased as per the prescribed standards and at the designated centres. To make the procurement process and payment smooth, farmers have been strongly urged to bring only completely dry paddy to the market. She informed that this solution saves the farmers from any kind of inconvenience or delay and streamlines the process for all.
She informed that strict monitoring will continue at all the procurement centres to ensure quality standards and protect the interests of the farmers.
