Rupnagar, August 24: In order to implement the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” campaign being run by the Punjab Government at the grassroots level, the District Rupnagar Police is continuously taking action against drug dealers.
Giving information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that under the “War on Drugs” campaign being run by the Rupnagar Police against drug smugglers and anti-social elements, a person was arrested in various cases of the NDPS Act and 16 grams of narcotic powder was recovered from him and meetings were held in different villages to increase police-public coordination and awareness about the ill effects of drugs under the project ‘Sampark’.
Giving further information in this regard, he said that in the continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the District Police checked drug smugglers and evil elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places, during which Sukhvir Singh alias Jugnu, a resident of Ward No. 08, near Post Office Morinda, was arrested by the City Police Station and 16 grams of narcotic powder was recovered from him and a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act.
S. Gulneet Singh Khurana further said that in the continuation of Project ‘Sampark’, in order to make the general public aware of the ill effects of drugs and to further increase the coordination of the public with the police, meetings were held with the Gazetted Officers and Chief Officers of the Police Stations in the villages and they were informed about the Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline and their suggestions were also taken.
SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the police to eliminate the menace of drugs and if there are many people involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then their information should be shared on Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
