PAU-KVK Ropar launches awareness campaign on stubble management in village Bhairo Majra

Rupnagar, August 3: An awareness campaign on proper management of crop residues was launched at village Bhairo Majra today by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ropar, under the leadership of Director Extension Education, PAU Ludhiana and ICAR-Attari, Zone-1, Ludhiana. A village level awareness camp was also organized on the occasion.

Associate Director (Training) Dr. Satbir Singh said that about 50 farmers from village Bhairo Majra and nearby villages participated in this awareness camp.

He said that instead of removing or burning paddy straw, mixing it in the field increases soil fertility and also helps in preserving the environment. The KVK team motivated the farmers to manage the straw properly by using stubble management machines like Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder and Happy Seeder etc. recommended by Punjab Agricultural University.

During this camp, along with providing technical information on crop residue management, KVK experts also answered farmers’ questions related to crop diversification, animal husbandry, horticulture and agroforestry.

On this occasion, agricultural literature was also distributed to the farmers and KVK experts visited the farmers’ fields and provided them with on-the-spot technical advice.
