Rupnagar, August 25: Additional District Magistrate Rupnagar Chandrajyoti Singh while issuing an order said that it has been brought to his notice that overloaded vehicles/tippers etc. are plying on IIT Rupnagar Road due to which this area has turned into an accident prone area. Therefore, a complete ban is imposed on the movement of heavy overloaded heavy vehicles/tippers coming and going from IIT Road (from IIT to flyover) under Section 163.
Chandrajyoti Singh said that this road is home to the national level IIT Rupnagar and other educational institutions, in which a large number of students from other states and higher education come to study and often there is traffic on this road of small vehicles/motorcycles of students, their parents, professors and employees who come to meet them, due to which there is a fear of accidents due to overloaded tippers. Therefore, based on the report of the Deputy Superintendent of Police Rupnagar, it is considered necessary to ban the plying of heavy overloaded tippers/heavy vehicles on this route in the public interest.
All these orders will be in force till 23 October 2025.
