Seminar Held on National Cancer Awareness Day 
Rupnagar, November 07: National Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated every year on November 7, with the aim of creating awareness among the people about cancer, providing correct information about its symptoms, causes and treatment. On this day in 2025, under the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh, an awareness seminar was also organized by the Civil Surgeon’s Office.
On this occasion, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Anjali and District Dental Health Officer Dr. Rajneet Bains informed the people about the necessary precautions for prevention, early detection and proper treatment of cancer in this seminar. They said that the main purpose of such seminars is to spread awareness about cancer among the people and encourage regular screening and early treatment of the disease.
They said that to increase information and awareness about cancer, it is necessary to make people aware about the symptoms, causes and prevention. Early detection of cancer and timely treatment can save the life of the patient. Health precautions and importance of regular screening for a healthy life. Daily habits that prevent cancer such as healthy eating, staying away from smoking and alcohol. Emphasis was placed on dispelling misconceptions about cancer in the society and providing accurate information.
He said that the symptoms of cancer in most women include lumps in the breast, lumps, indentation of the nipple, bloody discharge from the nipple, bleeding after sexual intercourse, vaginal discharge, heavy bleeding during menstruation, bleeding between menstruation. In men and women, there are non-healing wounds on the mouth, gums, palate or tongue, lumps on the tongue, difficulty in swallowing food, persistent cough, blood in the sputum, loss of appetite and weight, itching and non-healing jaundice, painless blood in the stool, fever for more than three months without any reason, etc.

On this occasion, District Mass Media Officer Gurmeet Kaur said that the main reasons for the increase in cancer in the society are mothers not feeding their children their milk, consumption of smokeless tobacco like bidi, cigarettes, chillum etc., consumption of smokeless tobacco, zarda, gutka, paan masala etc., use of hot food items in plastic cups or utensils, drinking alcohol, any member of the family having cancer.
She said that for the treatment of cancer patients, the Punjab government gives Rs. 1,50,000/- under the Chief Minister Cancer Rahat Kaush Scheme to the health institution where the patient is undergoing treatment.
