Government Procurement of Paddy to Begin from October 1; Deputy Commissioner Directs Completion of All Mandi Arrangements
Farmers Advised to Bring Dry Paddy to Mandis as per Prescribed Standards
Rupnagar, September 22: To ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement of paddy brought by farmers to the mandis of Rupnagar district during the upcoming Kharif Season 2026-27, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar, Shri Aditya Dechalwal, with district officials and officers of the concerned departments. During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of paddy procurement, facilities required at the mandis, labour, transportation and other arrangements.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned officials to complete all necessary arrangements at the mandis before the commencement of government procurement of paddy from October 1, 2026, so that farmers are provided with all necessary facilities and the procurement process is carried out smoothly. He also directed the officials to educate farmers coming in contact with them about the rules and prescribed standards for government procurement.
He said that farmers should bring their paddy crop to the mandi only after drying it to 17 per cent moisture content, so that the auction and procurement process can be completed on time and farmers do not face any delay in receiving payment for their produce. He directed the concerned departments to effectively communicate this information to farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner directed District Controller Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Dr. Kimmi Vineet Kaur Sethi, to ensure that all arrangements related to labour, labour cartage and transportation at the mandis are completed before the commencement of paddy procurement. The concerned procurement agencies were also directed to ensure timely arrangements for the required gunny bags. Necessary instructions were also issued to the concerned transporters.
The Deputy Commissioner directed District Mandi Officer Rupnagar, Shri Surinderpal, to issue necessary instructions to combine harvester owners regarding the combine harvesters to be used for paddy harvesting in the district’s mandis. As per the prescribed instructions, restrictions regarding the operating hours of combine harvesters were also discussed, under which combine harvesters have been directed not to operate between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
Similarly, officials of the AMI Department were directed to ensure that storage operations by various agencies in the mandis during paddy procurement are carried out strictly according to the prescribed rules. The officials present at the meeting were also instructed to resolve issues concerning farmers on a priority basis.
The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that all departments must work in close coordination to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties at the mandis during government procurement of paddy and that the procurement process is completed smoothly. He also appealed to farmers to bring only dry, clean and properly standardized paddy to the mandis so that unnecessary delays in procurement of their produce can be avoided.
