SDM Sri Anandpur Sahib motivates farmers not to burn stubble
Sri Anandpur Sahib 15 October : Under the guidelines of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varjit Walia and Chief Agriculture Officer and under the leadership of Jaspreet Singh Sub Divisional Magistrate Sri Anandpur Sahib, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department organized a farmer awareness camp regarding crop residue in village Majara.
Addressing the farmers on this occasion, Jaspreet Singh Sub Divisional Magistrate Sri Anandpur Sahib said that a large part of the nutrients obtained from the soil with the paddy crop goes into the stubble. He said that the number of the bales mapped by the Agriculture Department is being conveyed to the farmers of the concerned villages so that they can easily clear their fields as soon as possible and do not resort to setting fire.
Amarjit Singh Agriculture Officer said that if the stubble is set on fire, then all its nutrients are destroyed. He said that stubble contains about 25 percent nitrogen/phosphorus, 50 percent sulfur and 75 percent potash. He said that per ton of stubble contains 4-5.5 kg nitrogen, 2-2.5 kg phosphorus, 15-25 kg potash, 1.25 kg sulfur and about 400 kg organic carbon.
He said that the Punjab government is providing machines to the farmers on subsidy under the CRM scheme. Farmers should use this machinery to properly manage the stubble and avoid setting fire to the paddy stubble. Ram Kumar Sarpanch, Bachan Das Numberdar, Guljar Singh, Telu Ram, Sucha Singh, Rajinder Singh, Mandeep Singh were present on this occasion.
