Rupnagar, October 14: As per the guidelines of the Punjab Government and as per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mr. Varjit Walia, to yesterday the District Level Task Force team formed to stop child begging conducted a special checking in Nangal keeping in mind the festive season.
Giving information in this regard, the District Level Task Force under the leadership of District Child Protection Officer Mrs. Rajinder Kaur conducted raids in prominent places of Nangal city like Adda Market, Ajoli Mor, Shivalik Avenue, Bus Stand, Local Bazaar etc.
Mrs. Rajinder Kaur said that a special team has been formed to stop child begging in the district. This team is conducting continuous raids in collaboration with the police and other government department employees, under which children involved in begging are rescued and efforts are being made for their rehabilitation.
He said that so far 22 children have been rescued in Rupnagar district, who have been handed over to their parents after verification of the required documents by the Child Welfare Committee and some of these children were not enrolled in schools, who have been admitted to schools with the help of the District Education Department and during yesterday’s raid, no child was seen begging at any place in Nangal city.
Apart from this, the District Child Protection Officer has made a special appeal to the city residents that due to the festive season, the number of children begging increases during these days, so instead of giving alms, they should be motivated to go to school and study. He further said that due to the festive season, continuous raids will continue in the district.
During this checking campaign, employees of the District Child Protection Unit Rupnagar, employees of the Child Helpline and representatives of the Police Department were present.
