Deputy Commissioner appeals to farmers to bring only dry paddy to the market
Rupnagar, October 14: Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Shri Varjit Walia today held a meeting with the top officials of the district to review the ongoing paddy procurement process in Rupnagar district.
Presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that till October 13, 2025, a total of 43,897 metric tonnes of paddy has arrived in the district mandis, out of which 4,716 metric tonnes of paddy has reached on October 13 alone. The procurement so far is 43,882 metric tonnes, out of which 43,188 metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased by government agencies and 694 metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased by arhtiyas. On October 13, 4,726 metric tonnes of paddy was procured, out of which 4,698 metric tonnes of paddy was procured by government agencies and 28 metric tonnes of paddy by arhtiyas.
He said that till now lifting has been done for 35,616 metric tonnes of paddy, out of which 4,314 metric tonnes of paddy was procured on October 13 itself.
The Deputy Commissioner said that payments are being made to farmers on time by all the procurement agencies. Till now, payment of Rs. 82.07 crore was due, whereas till now Rs. 96.26 crore (117 percent) has been paid.
He instructed the District Food Supply Controller, District Managers of all procurement agencies and District Mandi Officer to ensure that farmers do not face any kind of problem during the procurement of paddy brought as per the norms set by the government.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis so that there is no problem in procurement. He directed the District Mandi Officer to strictly check the paddy at the mandi gate and only dry paddy should be allowed to enter so that there is no crowding in the mandi or inconvenience to the farmers.
He said that the district administration is fully committed to ensuring hassle-free and transparent procurement and has appealed to all stakeholders to extend their cooperation.
