Kiratpur Sahib, September 30: The Punjab government is continuously making efforts to connect the youth of the state with sports and strengthen the infrastructure of sports at the village level. Under this, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that within the next one month, 200 volleyball grounds will be prepared in Punjab and dedicated to the village panchayats and youth clubs. He said that the main objective of this initiative is to connect the youth with the playgrounds and provide them with better facilities for sports.
Harjot Singh Bains said that the size of each ground will be about 60×30 feet and the cost of one ground will be about Rs 2 to 2.15 lakh. The ground will also be equipped with necessary equipment for playing volleyball and lights for night sports activities. He said that 8 lights and 4 poles will be installed on each ground, so that the youth can get the facility to play during the day as well as in the evening. Along with this, volleyball kit will also be provided.
The Cabinet Minister said that the work of volleyball ground is being started at Hardonimoh and similarly the process of construction of ground is being progressed rapidly in other villages. He appealed to the panchayats of those villages that the villages which have not yet sent the required details regarding construction of ground, to send their details as soon as possible, so that the work of construction of ground can be expedited further.
Harjot Singh Bains said that sports are one of the most important means to channelize the energy of the youth in a constructive direction. With the availability of playgrounds in villages, the youth will get opportunities to hone their talents and they will be able to participate in sports to the maximum extent. He said that the government is trying to provide the players with the basic facilities required for sports at the village level itself.
On this occasion, Kesar Singh Sandhu District President Kisan Wing, Davinder Kaur Sarpanch, Pal Singh Panch, Sham Lal Panch, Darshan Singh Attari Block President, Jagir Singh Block President, Parminder Singh Jimmy District Youth Secretary, Mohan Singh, Mahinder Singh, Nitin, Ankush, members of the Youth Club and a large number of youth were present.
