Rupnagar, September 30 – Under the guidance of Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Rupnagar organized a one-day farmer training programme under the National Natural Farming Mission. The programme was supported by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rupnagar. A total of 50 farmers from different blocks of the district participated enthusiastically.
Dr. Satbir Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK Rupnagar, while welcoming the farmers, said that natural farming is very important for Punjab as it reduces the expenditure and debts of farmers, improves the health of the family and the environment, increases soil fertility and biodiversity. He said that this system helps in making farmers economically and environmentally strong by reducing dependence on chemicals.
The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Urvi Sharma (Assistant Professor, Plant Protection) and Dr. Sandeep Ahuja (Associate Professor, Vegetable Science). The need, principles and methods of natural farming were discussed in these sessions. Hands-on training on preparing organic inputs like Bijamrit, Jeevamrit, Ghanjeevamrit, Neemashtra and Brahmashtra was also conducted, in which the farmers actively participated.
Dr. Parminder Cheema, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rupnagar informed the farmers about the demonstration of natural farming and preparation of clusters.
This training program was successfully organized with the joint efforts of the Department of Agriculture, Rupnagar and KVK, Rupnagar.
