Free treatment and physiotherapy at Early Intervention Center improves child’s health: Dr. Vivek Kataria
Rupnagar, October 23: Giving information about the identification and timely treatment of mental or physical developmental delays in children at the District Early Intervention Center (DEIC) Rupnagar under the National Child Health Service (RBSK), Civil Surgeon Dr. Vivek Kataria said that positive improvements can be brought in the lives of children facing developmental delays through early intervention and regular therapy.
Giving the example of a child named Fatehvir, he explained that due to not crying at birth, various stages of the child’s physical development were delayed. Even at the age of five, the child could not walk on his own and even one of his hands was not fully functioning. The child also started physical activities like holding his neck, sitting and standing with a delay.
Fatehvir has been receiving free treatment and therapy services under the care of Dr. Yogita Bhardwaj at the Early Intervention Center of the District Government Hospital, Rupnagar for the past two years. Here, the child is given special exercises through physiotherapy and is trained in walking, standing and body balance.
With regular therapy and expert care, the child’s development has improved and he is now able to stand on his own feet and walk independently. The expert staff of the center have also provided detailed information to the child’s mother about the importance of continuing regular therapy and early treatment.
Dr. Vivek Kataria said that free specialized health services are provided to children from birth to 18 years at the District Early Intervention Center. These services include physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, training for parents on child care and expert advice. The aim of these services is to identify children with developmental delays in time and provide them with the necessary treatment and better life opportunities.
The Civil Surgeon appealed to the parents that if a child is not developing according to his age or there is a delay in neck control, sitting, walking, speaking or other developmental stages, then it should not be neglected. In such a situation, the child should be examined at the nearest health institution so that if necessary, he can be referred to the District Early Intervention Center and timely treatment can be provided.
