State-level team visits sensitive areas to prevent dengue
Sri Anandpur Sahib 18th September: As per the orders of Director Health Department Punjab, a state level team for prevention and control of dengue paid a special visit to various dengue affected and sensitive areas of Anandpur Sahib and Ropar city. The main objective of this visit was to stop the spread of dengue, identify and destroy the larvae and create awareness among the people.
The team was led by Dr. Arshdeep Kaur, State Program Officer, NVBDCP Punjab, along with Dr. Ranveer Singh, Dr. Amarinder Singh and Dr. Harsharan Kaur, along with other health officers and field staff. The team went door to door to check the water collection areas and wherever mosquito larvae were found, they were immediately destroyed. During this, people were also informed about the precautions required to maintain cleanliness around them and prevent mosquito breeding.
On this occasion, an awareness rally was also taken out by the students of the nursing school along with the teams of the health department. During the rally, the students raised slogans and motivated the people to protect themselves from dengue and distributed pamphlets door to door. The main message of the rally was “Keep your house and surroundings clean, do not let water stagnate and empty and dry the water containers every week.”
Dr. Arshdeep Kaur said that dengue is a dangerous viral disease that is spread by the bite of Aedes mosquito. She said that if a person experiences symptoms like high fever, muscle pain, pain behind the eyes, red spots on the body or bleeding from the nose and gums, then he should immediately seek medical advice at the nearest government health center. If not treated on time, the disease can take a serious form.
He further said that people should empty tires, pots, flower pots, coolers, back trays of refrigerators and other places where water collects in their homes, shops and workshops every Monday or Friday and dry them in the sun. This can prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. Along with this, it is also very important to keep water tanks covered and not allow garbage to accumulate around.
On this occasion, he said that awareness and caution are the best weapons to protect against diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya. He said that if anyone shows symptoms of these diseases, then they should immediately get treatment as per medical advice in a government hospital. Relying on home remedies or delaying treatment can increase the risk to health.
Health department teams are continuously conducting awareness campaigns in the district. Information about dengue prevention is being given to students through pamphlets and posters in group meetings, schools and colleges. Along with this, mosquito breeding is being controlled by conducting regular larval surveys in sensitive areas.
On this occasion, Najat Inder Singh, State Entomologist, Gurpreet Singh, Amrik Singh and Baljit Kaur Assistant Program Officer, along with other officers also participated and supervised the field work. The Health Department appealed to the people to follow the instructions issued by the government for prevention of dengue and cooperate in maintaining cleanliness around them, so that this disease can be eradicated from the root.
