- About 10 lakh compostable plates, glasses, and spoons will be provided to langar

The Deputy Commissioner informed that Hola Mohalla celebrations will commence from 27 February to 1 March at Kiratpur Sahib and from 2 to 4 March at Sri Anandpur Sahib. He stated that the district administration is committed to making the entire event environmentally responsible and hygienic, setting an example for large-scale religious gatherings across the state.
Highlighting key initiatives, DC Dachalwal announced that single-use plastic will be completely banned during the holy festival period. Instead, disposable utensils made from agricultural crop residue such as maize and sugarcane waste will be distributed to langar committees. More than 10 lakh compostable plates, glasses, and spoons will be provided to ensure smooth and hygienic langar services while enabling easy composting and scientific disposal of waste.
He emphasized that the use of crop-based compostable utensils will not only prevent plastic pollution but also promote sustainable waste management practices. “Our goal is to celebrate Hola Mohalla in a truly green manner and leave a positive environmental impact for future generations,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to Sant Mahapurush, social organizations, shopkeepers, hotel owners, langar committees, and devotees to cooperate with the administration in making this initiative successful.
Chairperson Ms. Reena Gupta assured full support from the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
