Rupnagar, February 2: Health Department Rupnagar celebrated ‘National Leprosy Day’ at Kusht Ashram Rupnagar. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Navroop Kaur and Dermatologist Dr. Aman shared important information about removing the misconceptions spread in the society about leprosy and its early treatment.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Navroop Kaur said that National Leprosy Day is dedicated to the compassion shown by Mahatma Gandhi towards these patients on the occasion of his death anniversary. She said that treatment of leprosy is completely free in all government hospitals and by starting treatment at the right time, the patient can become completely healthy.
Dr. Navroop Kaur said that leprosy is not a curse, but it is caused by a minor bacteria. We should not hate the patient but have compassion for him so that he can get his treatment without any fear.
Dermatologist of the District Hospital Dr. Aman explained in detail about the symptoms of the disease and said that early detection is the only way to avoid disability. He said that if there is any kind of scar or spot on the body in which there is no sensation of a needle prick, then this is its main symptom, in such a case, a medical examination should be done immediately.
He said that if there is a delay in treatment, this disease can affect the nerves of the hands and feet, which can lead to physical disability. He said that multi-drug therapy is the most effective treatment for it.
On this occasion, skin disease experts Dr. Aman and Paramjit Kaur visited the leprosy shelter and distributed medicines and fruits to the needy.
