Awareness rally organized on the occasion of World Mental Health Day

Rupnagar, October 10: Today, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Health Department organized an awareness rally on mental health in District Rupnagar. This rally was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh.
The rally started from Civil Hospital Rupnagar and ended back at the hospital after passing through different parts of the city. The students raised slogans like “Pay attention to mental health – live a happy life”, “Don’t stress, understand your mind”, “Asking for help is not a weakness” to raise awareness among the people.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh said that this year, the theme of World Mental Health Day is “Access to Services – Mental Health in Disasters and Emergencies”, emphasizing that during disasters, accidents and emergency situations, not only physical but also mental effects are profound on human life. At such times, people feel fear, stress, worry and lack of courage. Therefore, access to mental health services is the right of every human being and it is imperative to make them an integral part of the health system.
On this occasion, Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh said that mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, stress, lack of sleep etc. are becoming common and it is very important to remove the hesitation associated with them. He said that the Health Department is making mental health services available in every block hospital of the district where people can get advice and treatment.
Dr. Varinder Kumar said that proper diet, regular exercise, spending time with family and talking openly about problems are very important for mental well-being. He also said that every person should be aware of their mental state and seek expert advice if necessary.
On this occasion, District Vaccination Officer Dr. Navroop Kaur, Senior Medical Officer Dr. Amarjit Singh, Mental Health Specialist Dr. Poonam, District Group Education Information Officer Madam Gurmeet Kaur,
Deputy Mass Media Officer Ravinder Singh, Psychologist Monica Saini, Counselor Jasjit Kaur, Counselor Prabhjot Kaur, BCC Coordinator Sukhjit Kamboj and students of the Nursing School were present.
