Rupnagar, August 25: In order to implement the “Yudh nasheyan virud” campaign being run by the Punjab Government at the ground level, the District Rupnagar Police is continuously taking action against drug dealers.
Giving information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that under the campaign “War Against Drugs” being run by the Rupnagar Police against drug smugglers and anti-social elements, NDPS In various cases of the Act, 2 drug addicts were arrested and 1 person was arrested and 5.50 grams of narcotic powder was seized from them and in continuation of Project ‘Sampark’, meetings were held in different villages to make the general public aware about the ill effects of drugs.
Giving further information in this regard, he said that in continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the District Police checked drug smugglers and bad elements through roadblocks and patrols at different places, during which Akashdeep Singh alias Kasu, a resident of village Rampur, was arrested by Sadar Rupnagar police station and 5.50 grams of narcotic powder was seized from him and two drug addicts were arrested by Nangal police station and admitted to the drug de-addiction center and cases were registered against them under the NDPS Act.
S. Gulneet Singh Khurana further informed that in continuation of Project ‘Sampark’, in order to make the general public aware about the ill effects of drugs and to further enhance the coordination between the public and the police, a meeting was held with the gazetted officers and the Chief Officers of the police stations in the villages and information was given to them about the Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline and their suggestions were also taken.
SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the police to eliminate the menace of drugs and if many people are involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then their information should be shared on the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
