Training provided to ASHA facilitators under mental health program

Rupnagar, May 19: Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Raman Gupta, training of ASHA facilitators of the district under the District Mental Health Program under the National Mental Health Program was conducted at the Training Center of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Rupnagar.
During this training, information was provided on mental health, early detection of mental illnesses, counseling, outpatient clinics, drug prevention, telemedicine, and timely referral of patients so that mental health services at the community level could be further improved.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Raman Gupta said that this training will prove to be useful in integrating mentally ill and drug addicts with the society and making them self-reliant. He said that a person suffering from drug addiction is a patient who needs treatment and social support. When a person returns home after treatment from the de-addiction center, it is the responsibility of the family and the society to treat him with love and affection so that he does not get stuck in the swamp of drugs again.
Dr. Gupta said that drug addicts are also an important part of our society and they should not be discriminated against, mistreated or ignored. We should all come together to motivate them to quit drugs and encourage them to lead a dignified life in the society by linking them with employment.
The Civil Surgeon said that the Health Department, Rupnagar is making various efforts to eradicate drugs from the society. To eradicate this problem, OAT centers and drug de-addiction centers are being run successfully.
He said that OPD services related to mental diseases are being run daily at the De-Addiction Center of District Hospital Rupnagar where free check-up and medicines are available. He also said that for any help related to mental health, one can contact 24×7 Tele-Mentals Helpline 14416.
On this occasion, District Vaccination Officer Dr. Navroop Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Anjali Chaudhary, DMC Dr. Urmil Garg, Mental Health Specialist Dr. Kanwarveer Singh Gill, District Mass Media Officer Gurmeet Kaur, Ravinder Singh, De-Addiction Counselor Harpreet Kaur, Sumedha and Psychologist Social Worker Monika Saini were present.
