Rupnagar Police takes major action against drug smugglers, 05 kg opium recovered
Rupnagar, September 26: Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar said that as per the orders of Mr. Gaurav Yadav IPS, Director General of Police Punjab and under the leadership of Mr. Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police Rupnagar Range, the District Police is running a “War Against Drugs” campaign.
He said that during this campaign, Rupnagar Police arrested 03 drug addicts in different operations, while 02 drug smugglers were caught and 05 kg opium was recovered from them. Apart from this, one person wanted in an old case registered under the NDPS Act was also arrested.
He said that the Singh Bhagwantpur police arrested Bittu Ram and Dhani Ram (Solan district, Himachal Pradesh) and recovered 05 kg of opium from them. Similarly, Harvinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh (residents of Bhoje Majra, Rupnagar) were arrested by the Sri Chamkaur Sahib police station for being addicted to drugs. Nihal Singh (resident of Jhinjhri, Rupnagar) was arrested by the Nurpur Bedi police station. Apart from this, the City Rupnagar police station also arrested Balvinder Singh (resident of Jattu Nangal, Amritsar), who was wanted in case number 134/2025 registered under the NDPS Act.
SSP Rupnagar has appealed to the general public to cooperate with the police to eradicate the social evil of drugs and if there is information about drug trafficking or smuggling in any area, then it should be shared in a secure manner with the Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp Chatbot) or the District Police. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
