Awareness seminar organized at District Hospital Rupnagar on the occasion of World Sight Day

Rupnagar, October 9: Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh, an awareness seminar was organized at District Hospital Rupnagar today on the occasion of the 26th World Sight Day under the theme “Love your eyes”. Various program officers of the Health Department, specialist doctors, paramedical staff and common people participated in the seminar in large numbers.
On this occasion, District Immunization Officer Dr. Navroop Kaur said in her address that the purpose of World Sight Day is to create awareness among the people about eye health so that blindness can be avoided by adopting timely treatment and safety measures.
She said that youth and children should follow the 20/20/20 rule to take care of their eyes, under which they should take a 20-second break after every 20 minutes while watching mobile laptop or TV continuously and during the break, they should look at an object lying 20 feet away. This can avoid unwanted pressure and pain on the eyes. Apart from this, the use and adjustment of proper lighting is essential. While working or reading, the eyes should be blinked frequently and lubricant drops can also be used as needed to keep the eyes moist.
He said that in this era of technology, due to excessive use of screens, cases of eye diseases such as dry eye, myopia, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are increasing rapidly. Therefore, every person should get their eyes checked from time to time.

Meanwhile, eye specialist Dr. Raninga Gira said that this year’s theme reminds us that just as we take care of our physical health, eye care is also very important. He said that for eye health, a balanced diet, vitamin-A rich foods such as carrots, green leafy vegetables and fruits should be consumed. Along with this, it is beneficial to sit in good light while studying or working and take regular breaks from digital screens.
He gave detailed information about common eye diseases and their prevention. He said that sometimes small symptoms like blurred vision, itching or redness in the eyes are ignored which later takes the form of a big problem.
Finally, he appealed to everyone to make eye care a part of their daily routine so that every person can enjoy life with beautiful and healthy vision. He said that the Health Department will continue to organize such awareness camps at the district level from time to time so that blindness can be prevented and every citizen can be entitled to healthy vision.
