Rupnagar, October 04 – Giving information, Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar said that under the directions of Mr. Gaurav Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police Punjab and under the leadership of Mr. Harcharan Singh Bhullar, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police Rupnagar Range, the District Rupnagar Police has taken a major action against drug trafficking and gambling under the campaign “War on Drugs” being run against drug smugglers and anti-social elements.
He said that the District Police has arrested three persons including a drug addict in different cases under the NDPS Act and a total of 13 grams of narcotic powder has been recovered from them. Apart from this, four persons involved in gambling have been arrested and ₹22,140 in cash has been recovered from them and cases have been registered against them under the Gambling Act.
He said that in continuation of the “War on Drugs” campaign, the district police checked drug smugglers and bad elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places. During this, the police of Police Station Singh Bhagwantpur arrested Ramandeep Singh alias Raman, a resident of village Simbal Jhalia, and recovered 5 grams of narcotic powder from him. The police of Police Station Nurpurbedi arrested Dharamvir Singh alias Sethi, son of Jaspal Singh, a resident of village Balewal, and recovered 8 grams of narcotic powder from him. Police Station City Morinda arrested drug addict Harcharan Singh son of Harbans Singh, resident of village Sandhari Majra, police station Khamanon, district Fatehgarh Sahib and registered a case against him under the NDPS Act.

In addition, the police party of police station Nangal, acting on a tip-off, arrested Sonu Kumar, resident of Shakti Dham Jhuggian, near Railway Road Nangal, Ronak Sidhu alias Kaku, resident of Nangal, Ashok Kumar alias Jogi, resident of Ram Nagar, Hathi Matha Gali, Nangal and Manav, resident of Indira Nagar, Nangal. ₹22,140 in cash was recovered from them and cases were registered against them under the Gambling Act.
He said that the District Police organized meetings in various villages by Gazetted Officers and Police Station Heads to make the general public aware about the ill effects of drugs and to strengthen police-public coordination. During these meetings, people were informed about the Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline and were also made aware about the harmful effects of stubble burning and alternative methods of its management.
Finally, SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the police to eradicate the social evil of drugs.
