Rupnagar, October 28: Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana while giving information said that as per the directions of Director General of Police Punjab Mr. Gaurav Yadav and under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Rupnagar Range Rupnagar S. Nanak Singh, the Rupnagar Police is running a campaign against drug smugglers and anti-social elements under the “War on Drugs” campaign, the District Police arrested one woman and four persons in cases registered under the NDPS Act and recovered more than 39 grams of narcotic powder from them. Apart from this, the District Police conducted seminars to encourage farmers not to burn stubble and took action against traffic rule violators and issued a total of 105 challans.
He further informed that in continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the district police checked drug smugglers and evil elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places, during which Rupinder Singh alias Maunu, Baljit Kaur, resident of village Majri Thekedara Hall, resident of Green Enclave, Balogi, district SAS Nagar and Raman Kumar, resident of Sharma Colony near Gobind Palace, Tarn Taran Road, district Amritsar were arrested by the Singh Bhagwantpur police station and 20 grams of narcotic powder were recovered from them. And the Sadar Morinda police station arrested Pappu Singh, resident of village Klara and Vikas, resident of Sant Nagar Mohalla, Morinda and more than 19 grams of narcotic powder were recovered from them and cases were registered against them under the NDPS Act.

S. Giving further information, Gulneet Singh Khurana said that the district police conducted checks in various villages of the district to stop stubble burning. These teams made farmers aware about the harmful effects of stubble burning and motivated them to adopt environment-friendly options for managing crop residues.
Apart from this, he said that taking action against traffic rule violators, the traffic police Rupnagar issued a total of 105 challans for drunk driving, triple riding, obstructing traffic by wrong parking, using modified silencers in bullet motorcycles and violating other traffic rules.
SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public that if any person is involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then their information should be shared on Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
