Vigilance exercised by Health Department in flood affected areas paid off

Kiratpur Sahib October 09 : S. Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister Punjab, has said that the medical teams have worked with complete vigilance in the affected villages of the Sri Anandpur Sahib assembly constituency. As per the instructions issued by Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr. Sukhwinderjit Singh, the fever survey being conducted by ASHA workers in the flood affected areas of Block Kiratpur Sahib since September 14 has been completed.
Senior Medical Officer of PHC Kiratpur Sahib, Dr. Jangjit Singh, said that in the 49 flood-affected areas of Block Kiratpur Sahib, where medical camps were organized and health facilities were provided during the last one month, fever surveys were also conducted by ASHA workers from house to house so that dengue and malaria cases could be detected in time and the affected patients could be treated immediately and vector-borne diseases could be prevented from spreading.
Dr. Jangjit Singh said that during the survey, ASHA workers inspected 10,110 houses in view of the fear of dengue larvae in the flood-affected areas and people were also advised to wear full clothes, use mosquito nets, and boil water to protect themselves from vector-borne diseases. He said that during this, fever screening of 3606 patients was done and not a single case of malaria and dengue came to light. The senior medical officer said that this has been possible only due to the spraying of black oil and larvicide medicine and fogging campaign being carried out by the health department in the flood-affected areas.

District Epidemiology Officer Dr. Harleen Kaur and Dr. Surya Sharma said that a fever survey was conducted in 28023 houses of 93 flood-affected villages of Rupnagar and during this, 19939 health kits were also provided to the flood victims. They said that malaria screening of 9982 patients was done in the district and due to the vigilance being exercised by the health department, not a single case of malaria has come to light.
Senior Malaria Officer Sikander Singh and Health Inspector Sukhdeep Singh said that the work of spraying of larvicide medicine and black oil will continue under the “Har Pujadhar Dengue Te War” campaign. Block Educator Ratika Oberoi has appreciated all the ASHA workers and their supervisors Reena, Mamta, Neelam, Nirmal, Ram Piari, Tripta, Anita and Saroj for continuing the survey work on Sunday as well. CO Bharat Kapoor said that during the survey, ASHA workers also distributed ORS packets, Dettol soap, paracetamol tablets and Adomas etc. to the people.
