Health Awareness Seminar Organized on the Occasion of Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Day

Rupnagar, October 21: On the occasion of Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Day, which is celebrated globally, an awareness seminar was organized by the Health Department, Rupnagar, at the Government School of Nursing in District Rupnagar today. The seminar was led by District Immunization Officer (Dr. Navroop Kaur). Nursing students, teachers and health department officials participated in the seminar.
The main objective of the seminar was to make people aware about the diseases caused by iodine deficiency, their effects and prevention.
Dr. Navroop Kaur, during her detailed address, said that iodine deficiency is a serious health problem, which not only causes goiter, but also has a negative impact on the mental and physical development of children. She said that due to iodine deficiency in pregnant women, the intelligence and learning capacity of the children born can be reduced.
She told the students that the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Program is being run by the Government of India, the main objective of which is to ensure the use of iodized salt among the people. Dr. Navroop Kaur said that only fully packed salt containing iodine should be used in every household and open The use of salt should be avoided because it reduces or eliminates the amount of iodine in it.
During the seminar, Harleen Kaur of the Nursing School also shared her views and said that it is important for the students to join health awareness programs as they prove helpful in conveying health messages to the people at the next stage. She said that proper diet, healthy lifestyle and scientific knowledge are very important to prevent iodine deficiency.

Dr. Harleen Kaur also gave information about the sources of iodine during the seminar. She said that sea fish, milk, eggs, green vegetables and iodized salt are important sources of iodine. She also told the students that to check iodine deficiency, the Health Department regularly collects salt samples from schools and Anganwadis, which are tested in the laboratory.
At the end of the ceremony, she said that such awareness programs will continue in the coming days by the Health Department, Rupnagar so that the public takes responsibility towards health. May the spirit be stronger. He said that it is the duty of every person to remain healthy and make others aware about health.
On this occasion, Dr. Riya Vashisht, teachers of the School of Nursing, officials of the Health Department and students concluded the seminar with the message “Use iodized salt, live a healthy life”.
