Farmers with flood-affected areas will be provided free wheat seeds – Deputy Commissioner

Rupnagar, October 21: Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varjit Walia while giving information said that the Punjab government has announced special assistance to provide wheat seeds to farmers for the Rabi season 2025-26. Under this, farmers with flood-affected areas will be provided free wheat seeds.
Mr. Varjit Walia said that this seed will be available to a farmer for a maximum of 2 hectares of area. He said that along with being included in the list of flood-affected farmers issued in the name of the farmers, the area affected by the flood must be 33 percent or more, which will be verified by the Revenue Department.
He said that for the remaining farmers, under the SMSP-Seed Village Scheme, a farmer will be given a maximum assistance of Rs. 2,000 per quintal on wheat seeds for a maximum of 1 hectare of area. Under this scheme, the selling price of wheat varieties UPBW-550 and PBW-869 for farmers will be Rs. 900 (45 kg per bag) and the selling price of all other varieties will be Rs. 800 (40 kg per bag).
The Deputy Commissioner said that for the smooth implementation of this campaign, Punseed has been appointed as the nodal agency, which will supply the seeds of wheat varieties recommended by Punjab Agricultural University to the offices of the Agriculture Department.
He said that only those farmers found eligible by the department will be able to take advantage of these schemes. To take advantage of this campaign, farmers will have to register on the official website of the Agriculture Department www.agrimachinerypb.com. The online application/registration of the farmers will be verified by the Block Agriculture Officers of the department.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers of the district to get registered as soon as possible so that maximum farmers can take advantage of this campaign.
