Rupnagar, April 15: To ensure smooth and uninterrupted wheat procurement process in Rupnagar district, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mr. Aditya Dechalwal visited the grain markets today. During this, he reviewed the arrangements related to wheat procurement at Bela, Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Rasoolpur and Morinda grain markets.
Deputy Commissioner Shri Aditya Dechalwal got detailed information about the procurement, lifting, storage of the crops reaching the mandis and the facilities provided to the farmers. He instructed the District Managers of all the procurement agencies present on the spot to further speed up the lifting in these mandis.
He said that on the request of the Punjab government, the Government of India has formed teams to check the quality of wheat due to unseasonal rains across Punjab in the past few days and in view of this, a team sent by the Ministry of Food Distribution has collected a total of 12 test samples from various markets of Rupnagar district.
He said that after the test results, the government is expected to relax the quality standards of wheat, which will provide relief to farmers as well as procurement agencies and will speed up the wheat procurement process in the markets.
He instructed the concerned officials to ensure that farmers do not face any kind of problem in the markets and the procurement process should be implemented in a speedy and transparent manner.
Mr. Dechalwal said that the Punjab government has made complete arrangements to purchase every grain of the farmers’ crop and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated. He asked the officials to ensure cleanliness, drinking water, electricity, sheds and good arrangement of sitting in the markets.
The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the farmers and listened to their problems and issued instructions to the concerned officials to resolve them on the spot. He further said that the payment for wheat is being made directly in the bank accounts of the farmers within the stipulated time.
He said that the district administration has made all the arrangements in the markets and on this occasion, he appealed to the farmers to bring the crop to the market after drying it so that the auction of the crop can be held on time and the farmers can get the price of their crop without any delay.
