Deputy Commissioner reviews arrangements made for procurement and maintenance of paddy crop

Rupnagar, September 19: Kharif season 2025-26 has started in Punjab state from September 16. To review the arrangements made for procurement and storage of paddy crop brought by farmers in the markets during the season, Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar, Mr. Varjit Walia held a meeting with the Regional Officer of the Chief Minister’s Office, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates of the district, District Controller, Food Supplies, District Managers of Procurement Agencies, Chief Agriculture Officer and District Mandi Officer at Mini Secretariat, Rupnagar.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that paddy has not arrived in any market in the district yet. He said that keeping in mind the convenience of the farmers, the Punjab government has started the Kharif season 2025-26 in the state of Punjab from 16 September 2025, which will be completed by 30.11.2025, which will give more time to the farmers to sell the paddy crop in the markets at the government rate.

He said that keeping in mind the convenience of the farmers in the Kharif season, the Punjab government has made adequate arrangements for the purchase and maintenance of the paddy crop to be brought to the markets and after the timely purchase of the farmers’ crop, the farmers will be paid within a period of 48 hours. He also said that during the season, the district administration has set up eight inter-state checkpoints to prevent the sale of paddy at MSP in the district’s markets from outside states.

He said that this year, the government will be purchasing paddy through the grain procurement portal through face authentication. Therefore, he appealed to the farmers to get registered on the grain procurement portal or get two authorized representatives of the farmer registered on the grain procurement portal.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the government is committed to purchasing every single grain of the farmers’ crop. He appealed to the farmers that only paddy with a moisture content of up to 17 percent as per the government specifications should be brought to the market after drying so that the crop can be auctioned on time and the farmers can get the price of their crop without any delay.

He also appealed to the farmers to prioritize proper management of the crop residue by not burning it. Burning crop residue not only pollutes the environment, but also increases the risk of diseases and reduces the fertility of the land. He said that proper management of crop residues also increases crop yield and farmers do not have to use unnecessary fertilizers.
