Clean Guru Nagri, Healthy Punjab: Harjot Singh Bains Calls for People’s Participation in Mega Sanitation Drive
Sri Anandpur Sahib, 15 June :  Punjab Local Government and Education Minister and MLA from Sri Anandpur Sahib, S. Harjot Singh Bains, has directed all Urban Local Bodies across the state to intensify cleanliness drives with renewed vigour, aiming to make every city and town of Punjab cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful. Giving special emphasis to the holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib, the Minister stated that every corner of Guru Nagri will shine through this massive sanitation campaign, which is being carried out on a war footing by the Municipal Council, Sri Anandpur Sahib.

The Minister said that the cleanliness mission is not merely a government programme but a people’s movement that requires active participation from every section of society. He appealed to social organisations, religious institutions, market associations, educational institutions, and the general public to extend their wholehearted cooperation in making the campaign a grand success. He added that collective efforts and civic responsibility are essential to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for residents as well as the thousands of pilgrims and tourists who visit the sacred city throughout the year.

Highlighting the importance of scientific waste management, S. Harjot Singh Bains urged citizens to segregate household waste into wet and dry garbage and dispose of it separately in designated dustbins. Proper segregation will enable the local bodies to process and manage waste effectively, ensuring environmentally sustainable disposal methods. The Minister said that public awareness and cooperation in waste segregation would significantly improve sanitation services and reduce pollution in urban areas.

Referring to the religious and historical significance of Sri Anandpur Sahib, the Minister said that the Mission Clean Guru Nagri is a common cause for all, as the sentiments of devotees and pilgrims visiting the holy city must always be respected. Clean roads, markets, religious places, and public spaces reflect the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Punjab. He directed the Municipal Council and concerned officials to ensure regular sanitation, prompt garbage collection, and cleanliness around all important public and religious sites.

S. Harjot Singh Bains further announced that similar cleanliness campaigns have been initiated in cities and towns across Punjab under the guidance of the State Government. The objective is to create cleaner urban centres, improve public health, and enhance the quality of life for citizens. The Minister reiterated that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab is committed to becoming one of the cleanest states in India through sustained efforts, better civic infrastructure, and active public participation.

The Minister concluded by stating that cleanliness is directly linked to good health and protection from diseases caused by unhygienic surroundings. A clean environment helps prevent the spread of infections and contributes to the overall well-being of society. He appealed to every citizen to take ownership of their surroundings and support the government’s efforts by maintaining cleanliness in homes, streets, markets, and public places. Together, with the support of the people and the dedicated efforts of local bodies, Punjab can set a new benchmark for cleanliness and present a model of civic pride for the entire nation.
