Farmers encouraged to achieve zero burning target, appealed to farmers to use improved seeds
Sri Anandpur Sahib September 30 : S. Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister for Education and Information and Public Relations, has directed the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Horticulture Department to spread information about the beneficial schemes of the Punjab Government to the farmers of Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency by organizing special camps. Apart from this, farmers should also be given information about easy ways to get benefits under these schemes and about cultivating crops with the advice of experts. The department should also spread information about stubble management, soil testing, improved seeds and crops suitable for the geographical conditions of this area and crop diversification by organizing camps.
Accordingly, under the leadership of Shri Varjit Walia, Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar and the guidance of Jaspreet Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sri Anandpur Sahib, a block-level special camp was organized today at the community center of Agampur with the aim of preventing incidents of stubble burning and promoting proper management of stubble in the fields.
Naib Tehsildar, Nurpur Bedi Suneetan, who specially visited the camp, said that the experts have informed the farmers about the government’s schemes, told them about the tools used for agriculture and their availability, and also told them about the low use of pesticides and the moderate use of ropes and sprays. The experts have given information about the method of getting benefits and subsidies from the government. They said that stubble burning not only harms the environment but also has a negative impact on the fertility of the soil. He appealed to the farmers not to burn stubble and to manage it properly in the fields by using the modern machinery provided by the Agriculture Department.
Amarjit Singh Agriculture Officer while addressing the Nodal/Cluster Officers, Numbardars, Sarpanches, Panches and progressive farmers said that subsidized agricultural machinery should be used for stubble management. He made the farmers aware about the use of improved seeds, treatment of yellow fungus disease in paddy, and sowing of crops in every season. He also encouraged the farmers to sell jaggery, turmeric and desi oil. He thanked all the participants and appealed for collective efforts between the administration and the farmers to make the area stubble free.
On this occasion, Agricultural Extension Officer Jatinder Kumar, Raj Kumar ASI, Varinder Singh BTM, Arjun Singh ATM, Harpreet Singh ASI, Gurjit Singh ASI, Sukhsagar Singh Agricultural Development Officer, Gagandeep Singh Agriculture Officer and officers of various departments were present.
